Cover Letter for Marketing Managers
Marketing cover letters are a writing sample. Hiring managers are judging your clarity, persuasiveness, and whether you understand an audience. If your letter is generic or padded, it signals that your marketing work probably is too.

Marketing Manager Cover Letter Tips
Open with a marketing result that maps to their business goals
"I grew email-driven revenue from $40k to $210k/month over 18 months through segmentation and lifecycle optimization" is a first sentence that earns an interview. Generic openers don't.
Show channel depth, not channel breadth
Hiring managers would rather hire someone who's excellent at two channels than mediocre at six. Pick the channels most relevant to the role and show depth: specific strategies, specific results, specific tools.
Demonstrate you understand their audience
Spend 10 minutes on their website, ads, and email newsletter before writing. Reference one thing about their current marketing approach — what works, what's missing, or where there's opportunity. It shows you've done real research.
Dos and Don'ts
Do
- ✓Include at least one campaign metric (ROAS, CAC, open rate)
- ✓Reference the specific channels they use
- ✓Show you've looked at their current marketing
- ✓Keep it under 220 words
Don't
- ✗Don't use the phrase "creative and data-driven"
- ✗Don't list every marketing tool you've touched
- ✗Don't ignore their specific industry or audience
- ✗Don't write more than three short paragraphs
